From providing an array of ecosystem services to contributing towards human wellbeing, bees play a crucial role in maintaining the planet’s life support systems. In recognition of this fact, the Dilmah ‘Bee A Keeper’ program was implemented to promote the sustainable use of bees in agriculture with a special focus on raising awareness about the importance of bees and their links to biodiversity.

With objectives such as monitoring bee declines and creating replicable beekeeping models to uplift communities and livelihoods in Sri Lanka, the ‘Bee A Keeper’ program operates through six hubs across the island. The program, supported by the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, is divided into different focus areas ranging from research to project implementation to education, mangrove conservation and farming to community engagement.
